From Military Service to a Civilian Career in Tech: Jesse’s Story
Making the shift from military service to a civilian career isn’t always easy, but the leadership, adaptability and teamwork acquired in uniform can be powerful assets. Jesse, a Software Engineering Director in Personal Insurance (PI) Technology at Travelers and a Major in the Connecticut Army National Guard, has experienced just how well those skills carry over.
With 14 years of military service and nine years at Travelers, Jesse brings a strong sense of mission to both roles. “You achieve more as a collective than as an individual,” he says. “You’re going to join a team, you’re going to work on different projects and then as a collective, you’ll have a more comprehensive vision of what is this going to do and how does this better ourselves for the future?”
As a military intelligence officer, Jesse analyzes data to support decision-making and protect soldiers in the field—skills that also serve him well in tech, where innovation, collaboration and communication are essential. He also understands the unique challenges military families face, especially spouses. “Travelers really recognizes the demands military spouses take on and we accommodate toward that,” he explains. “That makes me really proud to work here.”
Since 2020, Travelers has hired more than 300 military spouses into field-based roles that support career continuity through frequent moves and other demands of military life.
Whether you’re transitioning out of active duty, balancing a civilian job with Guard or Reserve service, or navigating career moves as a military spouse, Travelers offers opportunities that align with your experience. Supportive employee networks, flexible career paths and a culture of collaboration help make that transition a little easier.
